Timelapse maker. Turn your long video into a timelapse, free.

Drop in a clip, pick how much faster, and it comes back as a timelapse in your chat. It runs on Treza's FFmpeg node, which costs nothing.

Four times faster on other footage

Each one is the FFmpeg node's own output, from the same command the button sends.

How it works

  1. 01

    Drop in a clip

    Any video from a phone or a camera, the longer the better. No footage? Switch to "Make it for me" and write one line about the shot.

  2. 02

    Pick how much faster

    4x, 8x or 16x. Every clip on this page is real output of the command your file gets.

  3. 03

    Sign in and it runs

    Google sign-in, then the timelapse appears in your chat, usually within a couple of minutes. Free: the FFmpeg node costs nothing.

What the button sends

Each speed is one FFmpeg filter chain, run by Treza's FFmpeg node on your file: frames blended in twos, fours or eights so motion streaks instead of jumping, every timestamp divided by the speed, and the clip's own frame rate kept. The sound is left out.

4x
tmix=frames=2,setpts=PTS-STARTPTS,setpts=PTS/4,fps=source_fps

Sound: left out (-an)

8x
tmix=frames=4,setpts=PTS-STARTPTS,setpts=PTS/8,fps=source_fps

Sound: left out (-an)

16x
tmix=frames=8,setpts=PTS-STARTPTS,setpts=PTS/16,fps=source_fps

Sound: left out (-an)

For a video the chain goes into -i {input} -vf "<chain>,format=yuv420p" -c:v libx264 -crf 20 -preset medium <sound> -movflags +faststart {output}. <sound> is the row's sound setting.

Timelapse maker, answered

Is the timelapse maker on Treza free?

Yes. It runs on the FFmpeg node, which costs nothing; an account with no credits can run it ten times a day. Having the footage generated instead of uploading it is priced like any clip, about $0.28 for a four second one.

How much shorter does my video get?

By the speed you pick. At 4x a minute of footage becomes 15 seconds, at 8x seven and a half, at 16x under four. The shot on this page is 15 seconds long, so its 16x is under a second; an hour of footage at 16x is under four minutes.

Why does it look smooth rather than jumpy?

Each frame of the timelapse is a blend of half the frames it replaces, the way a long exposure smears whatever moved during it. Clouds stream, traffic streaks and crowds blur instead of jumping from frame to frame. The result keeps your clip's own frame rate.

What happens to the sound?

It is left out. Speech and music at four times the speed and beyond are noise, so the timelapse comes back silent; add music to it in chat.

How long can my footage be?

Keep a file under 25 MB here; longer footage can be uploaded in chat directly, where the same command runs on it. A very long file can run out of time, and chat says so when it does; trim it first.

Does it work on a video shot on a phone?

Yes. MP4, MOV, WebM and the usual phone formats. A phone that records at a variable frame rate is fine, because the speed is set by time rather than by counting frames. The result comes back as an MP4 at your clip's own size and frame rate.
